RONGAI ROUTE, 6 DAYS

The Rongai Route is the only route that approaches Mt. Kilimanjaro from the north. The Rongai Route is a moderately difficult route and it is known to be more scenic than the Marangu Route and easier than the Macheme Route.  During the Machame route, you will be sleeping in tents. These tents will be pitched by our team. Our team consists of a professional and English speaking guide, porters and a cook. The Rongai route can be done in 7 days. The extra day will provide for a better altitude acclimatization schedule.

The trail is gentle and the countryside is beautiful. The first night’s camp is at First Cave, at about 2,600 metres. There is a toilet and a wooden table with benches, but no hut. The walk back to Kibo hut from the summit, takes about 3 hours. Here you will have a well-earned but short rest and collect the rest of your gear, before heading down to Horombo hut. The route is not difficult and will take you down the rock and scree path into the moorland and eventually into the forest. Here you will rest and feel proud of your achievement.

HIKING TIME: APPROXIMATELY 6-8 HOURS

You will be picked up and brought back to lodge for a warm welcome, a cold celebratory drink and a hearty meal.
